Dr. Amar Sayani is on faculty at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry. As a proud Toronto native, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario in 2006. In 2010, he earned a Doctor of Optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his residency at Southern College of Optometry in Pediatrics and Vision Therapy in Memphis, TN. He completed his Masters of Science in Psychology in 2024.
He spent five years in private practice before joining faculty and launching the sports vision and concussion service at NSU College of Optometry. Currently, Dr. Sayani is the director of the sports vision and concussion clinic, which is a part of the sports medicine clinic at NSU. Here he is a part of an interdisciplinary team including sports medicine physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, neuro-psychologists and athletic trainers.
He serves as the team optometrist for NSU Sharks athletics (NCAA division 2 program) providing care to the student-athletes and coaches along with others from the South Florida community. For the past six years he has been an integral part of the vision care team of a professional baseball team (MLB and MiLB players). He has worked with professional athletes and current and past olympians. He also helps patients seeking rehabilitation from the derailing visual effects of a concussion.
Additionally, he teaches the Sports and Performance Vision course and Pediatric Optometry lab annually. He conducts research in areas of human performance bridging his background in both optometry and sports psychology.
He enjoys caring for his patients, training future clinicians, conducting research, and working with an inter-disciplinary team of clinicians. In his spare time he coaches and trains youth athletes putting his expertise to practice and spends time with his wife and three children.
